Sew together two solid red

3" squares and a solid white

3 × 201 ⁄ 2 " strip to make Sashing Unit B

(Diagram 17). The unit should be

3 × 251 ⁄ 2 " including seam allowances.

Repeat to make four B sashing

units total.

ADD BORDER

Cut and piece solid white 2^3 ⁄ 4 ×42"

strips to make:

▫ 2—2^3 ⁄ 4 ×85" border strips

▫ 2—2^3 ⁄ 4 × 801 ⁄ 2 " border strips

Sew short border strips to

opposite edges of quilt center. Add

long border strips to remaining edges

to complete quilt top. Press all seams

toward border.

Referring to Quilt Assembly

Diagram, lay out blocks, sashing

units A and B, and remaining solid

white 3" squares in five rows. Sew

together pieces in rows. Press seams

toward sashing units. Join rows to

make quilt center; press seams away

from block rows. The quilt center

should be 80^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam

Sashing Unit B allowances.
