Are scrappy quilts not your style? Red-and-white
solids create an equally stunning two-color version of
Get Together.
“I love the clean simplicity of two-color quilts,”
associate editor Diane Tomlinson says. “This
32½"-square quilt would look at home in a traditional
setting as a table topper or on the wall of a modern
house as a piece of art.”
5 Tips for a Fabric
Strip Exchange
If you want the scrappiest version of
Get Together, host a swap to expand your
fabric variety. Whether you are leading the
swap or simply participating in it, use these
tips to ensure success.
- If you are leading the swap, clearly spell out
the details, including due dates, exact strip size
(1½×21"), and number of strips to be swapped. - Decide on a theme or a fabric
genre so everyone is cutting strips from the
same type of fabric. - Encourage participants to use
their best 100% cotton fabrics. It’s not out of
line to specify quilt-shop-quality fabric only. - Determine if fabrics need to be
prewashed because prewashing has to be
done before fabrics are cut. - Do your best work. Cut when you are
rested and not in a rush, and use the same
acrylic ruler and rotary cutter for all strips.
