Remove first two Row 1 half
hexagons from design wall.
Referring to Diagram 1, sew together
half hexagons, finger-press open, and
press seam toward first half hexagon
in row. Referring to Diagram 2, add
third Row 1 half hexagon in the same
manner, pressing seam toward second
half hexagon. Continue adding Row 1
half hexagons, pressing seams toward
top of row, until row is pieced.

Repeat Step 2 to piece remaining
rows, pressing seams in each
odd-numbered row toward the top and
seams in each even-numbered row
toward the bottom.

Sew together rows to complete
quilt top. Press seams in one
direction.

backing; baste. (For details, see

machine-quilted a hexagon
design across the quilt top (Quilting
Diagram).

Bind with gray-and-white stripe
21 ∕ 2 "-wide bias strips. (For details,
see Complete Quilt.) To attach binding
along inner angles of top and bottom
edges, stop sewing with needle down
at point of angle. Pivot layers and
stitch along next hexagon edge.

The large hexagon shape in Izzy’s Garden
lends itself well to both large and small
novelty prints, making this a versatile design.
Keep scale in mind when choosing your
fabrics, remembering that smaller prints will
appear more like solids. Also, if you choose
geometric fabrics that need matching, cut
them together before piecing in rows, taking
into consideration the seam allowance in the
center of each hexagon.
