Our staff quilt tester made two

20 "-square pillows using the block

in Batik Lattice. For each pillow she

used a light (solid white) background

to set off two prints and give the

block a look diff erent from the original

project. She chose a third print for

each 2"-wide fi nished border.

ASSEMBLE QUILT TOP

Referring to Quilt Assembly
Diagram for block orientation, lay
out blocks in five rows. Sew together
blocks in rows. Join rows to make quilt
center. The quilt center should be
641 ∕ 2 × 801 ∕ 2 " including seam allowances.

Piece and cut navy sailboat batik

21 ∕ 2 ×42" strips to make:

▫ 2—2^1 ∕ 2 × 801 ∕ 2 " inner border strips

▫ 2—2^1 ∕ 2 × 681 ∕ 2 " inner border strips

Sew long inner border strips to
long edges of quilt center. Add
short inner border strips to remaining
edges. Press all seams toward inner
border.

Piece and cut multicolor flower

batik 6^1 ∕ 2 ×42" strips to make:

▫ 2—6^1 ∕ 2 × 841 ∕ 2 " outer border strips

▫ 2—6^1 ∕ 2 × 801 ∕ 2 " outer border strips

Sew long outer border strips to

long edges of quilt center. Add

short outer border strips to remaining

edges to complete quilt top. Press all

seams toward outer border.
