ASSEMBLE AND ADD BORDER


Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.

Referring to Diagram 1, sew
together five mottled black 2^1 ⁄ 2 "
squares and five mottled cream

21 ⁄ 2 " squares to make a short border
strip. The strip should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 201 ⁄ 2 "
including seam allowances. Repeat to
make a second short border strip.

Referring to Diagram 2, sew
together six mottled black 2^1 ⁄ 2 "
squares and six mottled cream
21 ⁄ 2 " squares to make a long border
strip. The strip should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 241 ⁄ 2 "
including seam allowances. Repeat to
make a second long border strip.

Referring to Quilt Assembly
Diagram for orientation of
border strips, sew short border strips
to opposite edges of quilt center. Add
long border strips to remaining edges
to complete quilt top. Press all seams
toward quilt center.

FINISH QUILT

backing; baste. (For details, see

Quilt as desired. Susan Lawson
machine-outline-quilted the
appliqués and quilted pebbles, swirls,
and feather motifs in the appliqué
background (Quilting Diagram). In
the border she stitched a leaf design in
each cream square and an arc motif in
each black square.
