Luis Suarez v Stoke City (A) League Cup (26 October)
Liverpool fans just couldn’t get enough of Luis Suarez and his suitcase
full of magic tricks. He produced a couple of party pieces in this fourth-
round tie to warm the hearts of the travelling Kop on a chilly night in the
Potteries.
Suarez scored twice in the second half to give Liverpool a 2-1 win after
Stoke had gone in at the break with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from striker
Kenwyne Jones.
The Uruguayan’s equaliser was a thing of beauty and all his own work.
From a position on the left, he cut inside centre-back Robert Huth and
weighed up his options before nutmegging full-back Ryan Shotton on the
edge of the area and measuring a curling efort with pinpoint accuracy
around keeper Thomas Sorensen and in of the right-hand upright.
“The wee man scored a fantastic goal,” said boss Kenny Dalglish, who
scored a few decent ones while wearing the Liverpool no7 shirt himself.
