Divock Origi v Barcelona (H)
Champions League (7 May)
This goal inished as runner-up in the inal poll but few
would have quibbled should it have won when you
factor in the occasion.
As all Reds will know, Liverpool trailed footballing
powerhouse Barcelona 3-0 from the irst leg of this
Champions League semi-inal when Messi, Suarez and
co rolled into town. Liverpool were also without the
injured Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
However, Divock Origi had proven himself a man for
the big night and his early goal gave the Reds hope.
After Gini Wijnaldum’s quickire double in front of the
Kop tied the aggregate scores, the belief inside the
stadium was tangible. Cue this moment of magic.
While Barca’s backline were still organising
themselves, an inspired piece of thinking from Trent
Alexander-Arnold saw the right-back take a quick
corner at the Kop end and pick out Origi at the near
post. The Belgian still had plenty to do but as the
visitors’ defence started to wake up to the situation,
he calmly picked his spot, cushioning his efort past
stunned goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to send
Anield into raptures.
