MENS RETRO 78/79 HITACHI HOME SHIRT
Dejan models the classic V-neck home shirt from the late Seventies and the
irst by an English football club to feature a sponsor’s name (Japanese company
Hitachi were famous for their washing-machines at the time – they even
featured as competition prizes in the matchday programme).
In the 1978/79 season Bob Paisley’s Liverpool accumulated a record 68
points (under the old two-points-for-a-win system) and established a record
for conceding the fewest goals, 16, by a top-light side.
“That side was phenomenal,” remembers midielder Terry McDermott.
“We could play any which way we had to against any opponent. Graeme
Souness used to say, ‘If they come here for a ight, we’ll give them a ight’
or ‘If they want to try and outplay us they can’t – we’ve got too many good
players’. And he was right. We won games both ways. We were an exceptional
team. We had the good football and the steel.”
The jersey comes in a thick cotton with white V-neck collar and cufs,
a yellow embroidered LFC Liver Bird to the left of the chest, and the white
velvet ‘HITACHI’ front-centre. £40 (CODE: A13337)
