malfunction aboard Flight 302. Similarly, pilots
on both flights faced a losing battle to convince
the onboard computer that their input was
correct, and the information the computer had
received was dangerously wrong.
Was Boeing caught off guard by an unforeseen
flaw in a technology that it was unfamiliar with
implementing in its aircraft? If so, why did the
‘workaround’ solution that Boeing created also
fail? Was this, itself, not sufficiently tested? As
computers begin to pervade more and more
