ust imagine if you never threw out any of
your old clothes – how long would it take
for your overstuffed wardrobe to stop being
useful, and start being a source of hassle and
irritation? Odd as it may sound, the same thing
can happen to your mind. Without a regular
clear-out it can become cluttered, and that can
take its toll on your mental wellbeing, says
psychologist Dr Jessamy Hibberd, co-author
of This Book Will Make You Feel Beautiful
(Quercus, £8.99). ‘We all have a finite amount
of mental processing space,’ she says, ‘and when
that gets cluttered up with out-of-date beliefs
or unhelpful worries, we have less space to focus
on what we do want from life.’ So, put down
that bin bag, grab a pen and follow our guide
to spring-cleaning from the inside out... >
fresh focus
