Your route map

to a winning weekend

The long weekend...lie in
‘It’s bliss to enjoy a lazy bank holiday
morning, and a little forward planning
will help stop the break in your usual
routine slowing down your weight loss
journey,’ says Slimming World Consultant
Laraine Smith, who runs groups in
Somerset. ‘Doing the food shopping in
advance can really help keep things on
track, and a BLT sandwich makes a lovely
brunch – prepare it with your Healthy
Extra serving of wholemeal bread, grilled
bacon with the visible fat removed, and
lots of chopped lettuce and tomato,’ adds
Laraine. ‘Or go traditional with a cooked
breakfast of grilled Slimming World
sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes,
eggs fried in low-calorie cooking spray
and piping-hot baked beans.’

Bank holiday bonus
Once you’re fuelled up, why not spend
a little time getting ahead with the
coming week’s chores? A vigorous blast
of housework, gardening or car-cleaning
is an easy way to sneak some heartbeat-
raising activity into the day, leaving you
energised and ready to enjoy the rest of
your extended break.

The long weekend...
takeaway tradition
Whether you’re with the family, your other
half, or having a girls’ night in, planning
ahead will help you all sit down to low
Syn versions of your favourite takeaway
meals – often in less time than it would
have taken to order in! Stock up on plenty
of Free Foods, including lean meat, fish

and fresh vegetables, as well as a few
store-cupboard basics like dried rice and
noodles, and you’ll have the ingredients
you need to cook up everything from
fish and chips to curry and Chinese
dishes. You’ll find lots of recipe inspiration
on the Slimming World members’ website.
Bank holiday bonus
If you’re settling down to watch a film,
Hampshire Consultant Rachel Reid
suggests making your night in feel
special with some on-plan treats. ‘Thread
strawberries and chunks of fresh melon
onto wooden skewers and dip into a 60g
pot of reduced-fat chocolate mousse for
3½ Syns. And swap a medium glass of
white wine (10.5-12.5% ABV; 7 Syns) for
a gin (4 Syns per 35ml) and diet tonic with
lots of ice and a slice of lemon or lime.’ >
