(^87) %
of us would like to see unhealthy
snacks near supermarket tills
replaced with healthier options,
according to a survey. Until that
happens, having a plan to resist
checkout chocs will help. So
whether you add healthy snacks to
your list, like fruit, and
stick to it, shop online,
or check the Syns
ahead, you’ll stay
in control –
and that
feels good!
l e t ’s go!
ROAST DINNER – SORTED!
It’s a family tradition for so many of us –
gathering everyone round the table for
a delicious Sunday dinner. And there’s no
reason to miss out, says Slimming World
nutritionist Evie Lovell. Here are her tips
for an on-plan roast with the most:
Success isn’t
about how your
life looks to others.
It’s about how
it feels to you...
That’s what it
means to be true
to yourself

DANGER ZONE DEFUSED: THE TREAT NIGHT
We’ve all been there. After a great result on
the scales, a little voice in your head says,
‘Go on, order that pizza, you deserve it’.
Using food as a reward is a habit we typically
learn as kids, and if it’s stalling your weight
loss try this simple work around: list five
gifts that cost the same as a takeaway and
next weigh day, have a treat that lasts!
Who knew? Most of us have a fantastic
piece of fitness equipment at home or work
that we can use to boost our health, any
time we like! A Canadian study found that vigorously climbing
three flights of stairs, three times a day, for three days a week,
boosted cardiorespiratory fitness – linked to having a healthy
heart. It made the participants stronger, too. These little bursts
of activity, called ‘exercise snacks’ by the researchers, are ideal
for adding a bit of Body Magic into busy days!
TAKE FLIGHT
When you’re the cook, you get
to set the menu and guests often
won’t notice – or mind – if you
make a few slimming switches! Start
with a lean cut of meat – ask your butcher
or supermarket meat counter for the leanest
joint with the fat trimmed off – or poultry,
with the skin removed before serving. Roast
using low-calorie cooking spray and it’s
Free. You’ll find Free gravy recipes on the
Slimming World members’ website, or count
1 Syn per level teaspoon of gravy granules and
make with water rather than the meat juices.
Serve with Free roast spuds,
parsnips and other roots cooked
in low-calorie cooking spray,
and boil or steam your other veg.
Where you can, cook veg in their fibre-packed
skins for extra filling power and health
benefits. Fill at least one-third of your plate
with Speed Food veg such as broccoli, carrots
and cauliflower. Adding herbs helps to max
flavour without using butter – top combos
include minty peas, butternut squash with
sage, and rosemary potatoes.
If you’re the guest, ask if the
butter and sauces can be served
separately – or offer to help cook!
Where that’s not possible, start by
filling your plate with Speed Food veg, boiled
potatoes and lean meat. Then, if you want to
use your Syns on a Yorkshire pud, go ahead –
that’s what they’re for! Plan to keep other
meals that day Free and you can relax, knowing
you’re on track for a fab week of weight loss.
