Over the past couple of years, Apple has proven
that lowering its walls helps it to deliver a
better service to users. When Apple created
CallKit to allow VoIP apps like WhatsApp and
Facebook Messenger to more closely integrate
with the phone dialer in iOS, users were given
more choice on how they communicate with
friends overnight. And with Apple finally
adding AirPlay support and the Apple TV
app to third-party TV sets to play Apple TV+ and
purchased iTunes content, Apple again helped
users consume material in the way that suits
them best, without harming privacy or profits.

Though restrictions and limitations must
be put in place to reduce the chances of
‘bad actors’ exploiting Apple’s carefully-built
ecosystem, opening up the software to third-
party apps should prove to be a positive
change for everyone. If Apple gives users
choice and ensures its core apps are the best
they can possibly be, the company will surely
come out on top.
