Panda hanging

1

Cut out your stitched piece leaving
a 1.5cm (¾in) border. Cut out a
panel of white backing fabric to match
the front piece.

2

To make a tab, cut a strip of backing
fabric measuring 8x10cm (3¼x4in).
Fold in half lengthways and sew a 1cm
(½in) seam along the long side. Press
open the seam and turn through so
the seam is now on the inside. Repeat
for the second tab.

3

Fold the tabs in half to create a loop
and pin along the top edge of your
stitching, in the positions shown, with
the loops pointing down.

4

Place your backing fabric and
stitched piece together with right
sides facing and sew a 1cm (½in) seam
around all four edges, leaving a 4cm

(1½in) gap for turning. Turn, press and
then slip-stitch the gap closed.

5

Sew a line of stitching all the way
around the very edge of your
hanging in white thread.

6

Place your wooden dowel rod
through the loops and hang with
your ribbon of choice.

“The pink and plum tones

in this design really add

to the sentimental feel.”

Panda key

Panda pal
I know I’m not the only one who
adores pandas – they are such
lovable creatures and make great
subjects for cute greetings cards,
samplers and more! I recommend
stitching the background first and
the panda last, so that the panda
stands out and stays clean and crisp.

Perfect blend
To achieve the graduated shades
of pink for the rainbow, two of the
stripes use two colours blended
together. Blending is a really simple
but effective technique and, once
you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll find it
great fun to see the results. Check the
key to see where the blended stitches
go and which colours to combine.
