Start with the horizontal borders
(top and bottom). Following
diagram 1, working left to right,
bring the needle up at (1) and work
diagonally across two squares to (2).

Bring the needle out again
one stitch to the left at (3), and
back down again diagonally at (4),
overlapping the previous stitch.

Now move one square to the
left (5) and repeat steps 1-3 all
the way along.

Keeping the fabric facing in
the same direction, now work
the vertical borders at the sides of
your design, following diagram 2.
