Curtis Jones became the youngest goalscorer in a Merseyside
derby since Robbie Fowler in March 1994 when he curled home
that marvellous winner in the recent FA Cup third-round tie.
The midfielder, who turns 19 on 30 January, was one of a
number of youngsters who starred as the Reds sent a full-strength
Everton side crashing out of the tournament. His brilliant curling
effort past England keeper Jordan Pickford 19 minutes from time
ensured the progress of Klopp’s colts into the last 32.
Curtis told the magazine: “Growing up as a local lad it is always
your dream to score in a Merseyside derby and, of course, it was
a very proud moment for me. But I think the important thing was
that we won the the game and it was a great team performance
with all the young lads like Harvey [Elliott], Neco [Williams], Pedro
[Chirivella], Nat [Phillips] and Yasser [Larouci] doing really well and
showing how much we all want to play.”
