However,despitebeingthousandsof
milesaway,knittersacrosstheglobe
havebeenselflesslydedicatingtheir
timeandyarntomakingitemstodonate
torescuecentres.Koalasandother
smalleranimalshavebeensignificantly
injuredandkilledduringthefiresasthey
arenaturallyslow-moverswhichmakes
it di cultforthemtooutrunthefires.
Frompouchesforbabykangaroos,
warmblanketsforinjuredbatsand
knittedmittensforkoalas,knittershave
beendonatingformanyweeksnow.
It isestimatedthatmillionsofanimals
havebeenkilledsofarinthefires,and
sadlythisfigurecouldrisewithinjured
animals.However,thedramawon’tend
whenthefiresceasetoburn.Withthe
naturalhabitatdestroyedforsomany
animals,theywillneedwarmthand
shelter,andthisiswhereyoucanhelp.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTS
It’simportanttonotewhenknitting
it forinjuredanimals,thatthereare
specificrequirementsonthe
yarnused– onlynatural,andalsocotton
liningisrequired.Thisisduetothe
natureofthewoundsandburnswhich
areextremelydelicateandcaneasilybe
irritatedbyfabrics.

o cially established in 1889 in the UK. The Oxford
Down is the result of cross-breeding a Cotswolds
and Hampshire, and there are two main types of
sheep under the breed, the Oxford Down and the
pure-bred Oxford Down. An adorable feature of the
Oxford Down is that it even has wool on its cheeks!
