My “Migrations” series began in Northern

Canada, while thinking about the migrating

caribou which led to other migrating critters.

Th e series has expanded to the migration of

people, and the how and why they go from

one point to another. We all travel. How and

why we take a journey I fi nd very interesting.

Saturday Sail (watercolor on paper, 21½ x13)

I was inspired to paint this after a visit to a

harbor in Brixham, Devon, where I watched

sailors setting off for the day. I’m happy with

the way the foreground yacht sits on the

water and also how the background shape

represents the buildings of Brixham in an

uncomplicated way. I really wanted to be on

that yacht!
