from many directions and relishes
the vibrancy of urban life. Every
weekend, for example, he visits muse-
ums to study master works. “When
I have spare time, I’ll also go to book-
stores and cinemas,” he says. “I also
enjoy gardening, fi sh farming and
photography. For me, all the wonder-
ful things and activities the world
has to off er infl uence my painting
because my works are created in
a contemporary atmosphere.”
For Chow, the incredible opportu-
nities for travel, the connections and
relationships he forms along the way,
and his constantly renewed apprecia-
tion for his surroundings greatly
outweighs the challenges he has faced
as an artist throughout his career.
His unfailing positivity and gratitude
for the work is evidenced in his
vibrant portrayals of city life and

Meet the Artist


Jansen Chow, of Malaysia,
received an art scholarship
and studied at The Art
Students League of New York,
from 1994 to 1996, and was
a student of American
watercolor master Mario
Cooper. Chow is a signature
member of the American
Watercolor Society and the
National Watercolor Society.
He has held 18 solo art ex-
hibitions and has participated
in more than 400 national and
international watercolor
exhibitions since 1992. He has
won more than 60 national
and international awards in
watercolor, oil, printmaking
and photography since 1988,
including nine fi rst place
awards in watercolor com-
petitions in the U.S. Canada,
Turkey and Malaysia. He’s
currently a brand ambassador
for Daniel Smith.

inspires new ideas.”
