surfaces. I occasionally use soft pastels to create misty light in landscapes or evening cityscapes.”
He also enjoys using spattered paint or masking fl uid to create textural eff ects. Small spattered
dots of white masking fl uid work well for depicting textured surfaces, like a pebbly beach or snow.
A love of experimentation has led Forsey to employ several diff erent techniques to achieve
varying textures. “I can use granulating pigments with a drybrush technique and let the brush
move in a number of diff erent directions to create strong marks with the paint,” he says. “I also
lift the paint to create random eff ects. A toothbrush is useful, as is a roller, palette knife and a fan
brush. All have their place in my kit for making textures.”

“My favorite subjects are coastal, riverine and occasional town scenes,” says Forsey. “I’m inspired
mostly by light, weather and season, and I always look for these opportunities in my selection of
