9 Optional shortcuts
All shortcuts are optional, but there are some that you need
to enable first. Enable Clipboard History under Start > Settings >
System > Clipboard, and you can then access the clipboard by
pressing Windows + V. Another optional shortcut is Windows + C
to call up Cortana, but you need to first head to Start > Settings >
System > Clipboard and enable the keyboard shortcut setting.

Web browser shortcuts
Whichever web browser you are using, there are shortcuts
that are compatible with all. [Ctrl] + [T] opens new tab, while [Ctrl]

  • [W] closes the current one. Pressing [Ctrl] + [Tab] lets you cycle
between tabs, or use [Ctrl] + [a number] to jump to that tab. You
can access your browsing history with [Ctrl] + [H], bookmark a site
by pressing [Ctrl] + [D], and your downloads with [Ctrl] + [J].

5
Explorer navigation
If you already know how to use keyboard shortcuts to
navigate with your web browser, you’ll find that many also apply
to Explorer. [Alt] + [left] or [right] skip between folders, while
[Backspace] lets you jump up to the parent folder. [Ctrl] + [N] will
open a new instance of Explorer, and [Ctrl] + [C], [Ctrl] + [V] and
[Ctrl] + [X] can be used to copy, paste and cut files and folders.

10 Learn new shortcuts
You can learn the shortcuts for a particular program or
window by pressing [Alt]. Any key combinations will appear in an
overlay. You can then press the letter or number indicated to
access that part of the interface, or perform a particular action.
Not all programs support this method of displaying shortcuts,
but you should find that all Microsoft software does. Q

More handy Windows shortcuts
Emoji are very commonly used in text messages and on
social media, but did you know that Windows 10 features an
emoji keyboard that lets you use them in just about any app?
Just press [Win] + [.] to access it. When you step away from
your PC to do something else, it’s a good idea to lock it – just
press [Win] + [L] to do this.

6 More Explorer shortcuts
You can jump to the search field by pressing [Ctrl] + [F],
while pressing [Ctrl] + [D] moves the focus to the address bar. To
enable the preview pane, so you can view files without opening
them, hit [Alt] + [P] to toggle it on and off. You can also change
the icon view that is used in Explorer by holding down [Ctrl] and
scrolling back and forth with your mouse wheel.
