This adjustment is all about the brightness of the image.
The histogram shows you where the data in the image is: in our
case, it’s all bunched up to the left-hand side – the dark side. By
moving the White Level slider to the left until its vertical marker
just touches the end of the histogram data, we can re-map the
tones so they fill the space, brightening the image up greatly.


4 Gamma
The central slider on the Levels window is marked Gamma.
It controls brightness without remapping tones, and is centred by
default. Push it to the left to increase the brightness of the image,
but using it in conjunction with the White Level slider will give
you a better result. If your image is too bright, slide it to the right,
and use the Black Level slider too, pushing it to the right.

of wrong-coloured

colours of those
below it in the stack.
