I

am writing in the hope that you
will publish my letter in Your Dog
Magazine, as this would mean the
world to me.
Meet Bumble, a four-year-old rescue
dog from Blue Cross Tiverton. This is my
place of work as an animal behaviour
coordinator, and I’ve also been fostering
our kennelled dogs for over a year. As
soon as I met Bumble, I knew that she,
too, would be coming home with me
— she’s so cuddly and friendly, not to
mention gorgeous! Little did I know
the part that she would have to play in
my life.
When Bumble arrived at the centre, she
had very bloody urine and was rushed to
the vet’s, who discovered she had a large
cyst on her kidney, meaning that the
kidney had to be removed. By this point,
Bumble was about to become my i rst
‘foster fail’ as she was one I could not say
goodbye to.
Sadly, we then found that her
remaining kidney also has a cyst on it,

which has turned out to be
a nephroblastoma (cancer) — the vets
have given her months. I immediately
signed the paperwork to oi cially make
her mine, and I am determined to give
her the best time of her life for however
long she has left. She has had a huge
impact on my life, as I was going through
a very dii cult patch when she arrived.
I have created ‘Bumble’s bucket list’, full
of fun things for us to complete together.
One of the items on that list is to feature
in a magazine, particularly this one as
it’s my favourite! For years I have read
Your Dog and the articles about the best
places to take your dog, with the hope
that one day I would actually have my
own dog to visit them with — and now
I do.
If anyone would like to follow us on this
journey, check out @bumblesbucketlist
on Instagram.
She really is the most important, brave,
and inspiring dog I have ever met.

DOGS KEEP
US GOING
After losing our last old dog in
2018, life felt empty. My
husband and I suf er from
life-changing illnesses, which
can be very depressing. We
needed to bring fun, laughter,
and life back into our home.
In February 2019, we came
across a well-known local
breeder advertising Labrador
puppies. Within 24 hours, we
were bringing not one but two
home. I grew up with a yellow

Lab, my husband a black Lab,
and we couldn’t decide
between us. The two little
puppies picked us, we didn’t
pick them.
Luna and Storm had their
i rst birthday just before
Christmas. They are a blessing.
They have enhanced our lives
a billion per cent. We have had
some very tough years, and
2019 was one of the toughest.
My mum passed away after
a six-month illness last
September, and my husband’s

stage 4 cancer worsened
during 2019. But these two
dogs have kept us going; we
love taking them out. They
are natural companions and
assistance dogs.
They will pick things up of
the l oor whenever they see
us struggling; they snuggle
when we are sad; they walk
gently by our sides. At only
one year old, they are the most
wonderful dogs you could ever
ask for.
Lesley Mchugh, Powys.

The very cuddly
Bumble.

Bumble and Charlotte will
be exploring new places.
