Step 11.
Airbrush the dried butterflies on both sides with the
orange airbrush colour. Ensure you hold the airbrush
about 6” away from the paste and keep the airbrush
moving in a circular motion until evenly covered.

Steps 12a & b.
Once dried, begin to paint the stained glass effect onto
all three butterflies using a no. 1 paintbrush and the
black dust/vodka paste. Do this slowly and steady your
hand with your other hand to ensure you get straight
lines. Paint an outline all the way around the edge of the
butterflies with the black paste and allow to dry.

Steps 13a & b.
Take a ball of black sugarpaste and roll into a tapered
sausage for each butterfly body. Paint a little water on
the body and push into the fold of each butterfly.

Step 14.
Mix up a little royal icing and spread a little to the back
centre of each butterfly. Place into position on the cake
and hold for a few seconds until stable. Repeat for each
butterfly. Wrap the black ribbon around the edge of the
drum and secure with a pin.
