Wanted: shots of endangered oysters
ZSL (Zoological Society of London) has launched a photo
competition to find the best images of the rare and endangered
native European oyster (Ostrea edulis). The contest runs until 31
September, and the winner gets a one-day advanced photography
workshop hosted at ZSL. Enter via http://www.zsl.org/motherthames.


Fast 60mm Voigtländer
Cosina, which owns the Voigtländer brand, has announced the
Nokton 60mm f/0.95 lens for Micro Four Thirds. This new fast
prime offers a 35mm equivalent angle of view of 120mm, a
minimum focusing distance of 34cm and a 35mm equivalent
magnification of 1:2. UK availability is still to be confirmed, but
the price is likely to be at least £1,300.


Yongnuo and Laowa

Two lens makers – Yongnuo and
Venus Optics, the company
behind Laowa – have joined the
Micro Four Thirds Standard
Group, which was set up by
Olympus and Panasonic in

    full access to the system’s
    standards, which should allow
    them to develop lenses with
    autofocus and electronic
    aperture control in the future.
    No new lenses have been
    announced as yet.


Yarrow march to NEC
Leading fine-art nature photographer David Yarrow has been
confirmed as a speaker on the main Super Stage at the
Photography Show, to be held at the Birmingham NEC from 14-
March. Other big photographers on the stage include documentary
master Susan Meiselas and top rock shooter Ross Halfin.


Major Nikon Z series

Firmware updates for the Nikon
Z 6 and Z 7 mirrorless cameras
have been released, adding
animal-detection AF along with
other enhancements. The
cameras can now identify and
lock focus on the faces of cats
and dogs, and this also works
in video mode. Subject tracking
with still-image shooting in
AF-C mode has been modified
