the Intel Core i9-9900K and Ryzen 7 3800X. The Scan’s

multi-tasking score is similarly dominant, and its overall

result of 329,732 is superb, and barley any different from

the overall results of overclocked Ryzen 9 systems.

This PC will easily handle heavily multi-threaded workloads,

making it a winner for content creation applications and other

relevant workloads. You’ll get a little more power by opting for

a chip such as the Threadripper 3970X in the Chillblast Fusion

Conqueror (see Issue 199, p32), which scored 1,119,641 in the

Handbrake test and returned an overall result of 382,767, but

those extra cores certainly don’t double performance and few

workloads will really need them.

The Scan’s brilliant CPU performance is bolstered by the

SSD’s read and write speeds of 4,972MB/sec and 4,257MB/

sec, which are fantastic. The GPU is no slouch either. At 4K, the

overclocked RTX 2080 Ti returned 99th percentile frame rates

of 52fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and 46fps in Total War:

Warhammer II. It fared less well in Battlefield V with ray tracing

on High, but that 99th percentile frame rate jumps up to 52fps

if you enable DLSS, where it still looks good.

Meanwhile, the 360mm Corsair all-in-one liquid cooler

does a solid job of cooling the CPU, with a great peak delta T

result of 46°C. The GPU delta T peaked at a reasonable

56°C as well, and the Scan never made much noise –

there’s a low fan rumble during gaming and work, but it’s

quieter than most high-end gaming machines we review.

Conclusion

Scan’s PC impresses in several areas. It has huge CPU

power, a very fast GPU and a good specification

elsewhere. The case is unfussy and effective, and this

PC’s great benchmark results are delivered with little

noise. It’s an expensive, specialist build though. You

only need this CPU if you’re undertaking tough, heavily

multi-threaded work tasks, and the GPU is only justified

if you want to play games at very high resolutions.

Despite that, the Scan offers good value. It loses the

expensive bells and whistles that ramp up the cost of

16-core rivals, while maintaining performance. It’s an

excellent, straightforward option for work and play.
