There wasconste rnation among

the photographersas F1 called

all the driversto the grid to be

filmed firstthin g in the morning

• but we weren’t allowedto
  capture thesame shot.
  Fortunately I’d been tipped
  off by one of the teams so I was
  able to position myself at one
  of the gaps in the fence on the
  pitwall. I had to work quickly
  but I knew the shot I had in
  mind. Generally – at grands
  prix – the drivers don’t have
  their crash helmets with them
  while they’re linedup for the
  national anthem before the
  race. So having them all roughly
  aligned here, with thefocus
  falling in the middle, madefor
  an unusual image.
