Jamie Vardy is one of the unlikely heroes
of Premier League football in the modern
age. His heroics in Leicester City's title
triumph in the 2015-16 season wrote him
into folklore and his form under new
boss Brendan Rodgers has made sure
he stays there. Although he shows no
signs of slowing down the years left in
Vardy's career might be limited - he is
33 after all. When he retires, he will be
considered a legendary figure of the
English.

1) NON-LEAGUE HERO
As recently as 2011, Jamie Vardy was
playing his football for Halifax Town
and Stocksbridge Park Steels, semi-
professional sides in the English football
pyramid. Fast forward less than a decade
and he was playing in the Champions
League and for England at the World
Cup.

2) FACTORY TO THE FOOTBALL FIELD
During his time playing for Stocksbridge
Park Steels, Vardy worked in a factory
because his income from football alone
was not enough to sustain him.

3) CAN'T WRITE SCRIPTS LIKE THIS...
Vardy's rise from the basement of
football to its pinnacle is said to be the
inspiration for a Hollywood biopic of
his life. It isn't known whether the film
is in production yet - the producers will
probably be waiting until the end of his
career.

4) NETTING GOALS TO NET WORTH
Vardy was earning just £30 a week when
he worked in the factory. Nowadays,
thanks to his big-money contract with
the Foxes, he's worth around £12-million.

5) A SEASON TO REMEMBER
Though N'Golo Kante took home the
PFA Player of the Year award in 2015-
16, it was Vardy who won the Football
Writers' Association Player of the Year -
it's an award many people consider more
prestigious.

6) STRIKE OF THE SEASON
In one of Leicester City's less successful
seasons, Vardy still had his fair share of
acclaim. His strike against West Brom in
the 17-18 campaign won the BBC Goal of
the Season award. Riyad Mahrez played a
hopeful ball over the top which dropped
over Vardy's shoulder before Leicester's
number 9 swatted home without before
the ball touched the floor.

7) A BRUSH WITH THE LAW
After being convicted of assault in
2007, Vardy had to wear an electronic
tag around his ankle. This meant that
he struggled to play many away games
or he would have to come off after 60
minutes in order to make it back for his
curfew cut-off point.

8) WORTH EVERY PENNY
When Jamie Vardy joined Leicester City
in the 2012-13 campaign, it was as the
most expensive player in non-league
history. Fleetwood recouped a cool
£1-million for his services.

9) 11 IN A ROW
In the Foxes' title-winning season, Vardy
scored an in an incredible 11 games in
a row. He snatched the scoring streak
record from Ruud Van Nistelrooy. No
none has taken it from him since.

10) TOO SMALL TO PLAY?
Before Vardy's breakthrough, then-
Championship club Sheffield United
turned down the chance to sign the
striker because of his diminutive stature.
He has since turned his wiry physicality
into arguably his strongest asset.
