Find files quickly
Simple filename searches can be
conducted by typing in keywords – by
default, all files recently accessed across
all locations are searched. To limit your
search to the current location, tap its
name next to Recents.

2

Use search tokens
Refine your search by file type, date
or who a file is shared by using search
tokens. Type your keyword – for example,
‘Keynote’ – and suggestions will pop up:
tap one to use it, then enter your further
search term.

3

Locate files
You can open files directly from
search results, but to find out a file’s
parent folder requires opening the Quick
Actions menu and choosing Info. You’ll
see the folder path listed under ‘Where’ –
tap it to jump to that folder.

4

Work with tags
Files or folders under Locations can
be tagged to make them easier to find.
Tap and hold on a single file or folder and
choose Tags to select an existing tag or
create a new one – enter a name and
assign it a colour.

5

Tag multiple files
Browse to the folder containing your
target folders and files. Tap Select, then
select each one before tapping Share.
When the pop-up menu appears, tap
‘Add Tags’ to assign the same tag(s) to
the entire selection.

6

Manage tags
To rename, edit or rearrange the
order of tags in your list, tap ... next to
Browse and choose Edit before making
your changes using the controls. Note,
you can only change the colour of your
tags via Finder on a Mac.

7

Work with folders
Files comes with the full set of file-
and folder-management tools. You’ll see
a new folder button appear to the left of
the search tokens. Tap this to create a
new empty folder in the currently
selected location.

8

Move/copy files/folders
Individual items can be moved,
copied, edited or deleted with a long tap
to bring up the Quick Actions menu; tap
Select to tick a selection of files, then use
the controls at the bottom of the main
pane to perform similar actions.

9

Annotate files
You can annotate images and PDFs
from Files: long-tap on a file and choose
Markup, then use the controls to add
labels and other elements. Be careful –
changes are made to the actual file!
Maybe duplicate the file first.
