Rainforest Enchantment

By Patricia Thomas
“Washington state is home to several temperate rainforests, and all
can be accessed from Highway 101 along the west coast. The Quinault
rainforest offers both paved and dirt roads plus miles of hiking trails.
As I was wandering through this magical place, I kept searching for an
element that would balance out the busy scenes of the forest and give
a focal point to stand out from the large expanse of green.
“On my second attempt in this area, I spotted this stand of foxglove.
The light was partially diffused with overhead clouds, which allowed for
warm light to penetrate the forest. I moved as far away from the scene
as I could and used a narrow aperture and long focal length to com-
press the scene, which brought all the elements together.”
