like they were late for work,” says photographer Jerry
Jackson. “These high-altitude squirrels hibernate up to eight
months of the year, which may explain their hurried behavior
as they gather food. This particular squirrel, however,
seemed to be in no rush at all. It would meticulously smell

worthy of being eaten. It was a good reminder for us to take
time to enjoy the vacation while it lasted.”
