Midway

This is a fictionalized retelling of the story
of the Battle of Midway, which occurred
between the American fleet and the Imperial
Japanese Navy in June 1942 and marked
a significant turning point in World War II’s
Pacific Theatre.

FIVE FACTS:

  1. This film is also based on the Imperial
    Japanese Navy Air Service’s preemptive
military strike against the naval base at
Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor in December 1941.

  2. Filming of Midway took place in Hawaii as
    well as Montreal.

  3. Director and producer Roland Emmerich
fundraised most of the budget for this film
after struggling to secure financial support
    for it.

  4. Midway’s production budget of $100
million makes it one of history’s most
    expensive independent films.

  5. However, Midway received mixed reviews
from critics and grossed only just over $125
    million globally.
