Midway
This is a fictionalized retelling of the story
of the Battle of Midway, which occurred
between the American fleet and the Imperial
Japanese Navy in June 1942 and marked
a significant turning point in World War II’s
Pacific Theatre.
FIVE FACTS:
- This film is also based on the Imperial
Japanese Navy Air Service’s preemptive
military strike against the naval base at
Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor in December 1941. - Filming of Midway took place in Hawaii as
well as Montreal. - Director and producer Roland Emmerich
fundraised most of the budget for this film
after struggling to secure financial support
for it. - Midway’s production budget of $100
million makes it one of history’s most
expensive independent films. - However, Midway received mixed reviews
from critics and grossed only just over $125
million globally.
