DIVERSIFICATION IS KEY FOR APPLE

From the launch of the first iPhone to the
excitement of the iPhone X, it’s obvious that
Apple abandoned its professional Mac users
as it set its sights on consumer domination.
New releases were half-baked and annual
upgrades were nothing more than a new
processor or speed bump. Apple has worked
hard to redeem itself in the years that followed,
and though the Mac family isn’t perfect, it’s in
a much healthier position today than it was in
2010, even if there have been major casualties
along the way. Moving forward, the company
must continue to pump new life into the Mac if
it wants to hold onto the product category; yes,
computer sales are freefalling as consumers
turn to iPads and smartphones, but with
Project Catalyst unifying the Apple ecosystem
like never before, the computer company could
be on the brink of something really special.

Diversification is key for Apple. Its iPhones and
iPads are always going to be at the top of the
tree, but if a dedicated team can build upon the
success of the Mac year in, year out, meeting the
demands of both professionals and everyday
consumers, Apple can continue to cannibalize
the competition and make Mac the number-one
choice for desktop computing.
