don’t want to lose your data, such
as usernames and passwords, by
moving to anew computer.Fortunately,most
modern browsers supportsynchronising
settings between computers using the cloud.
We recommend using Google Chrome, as it’s
the best browser overall.
Download and install this on your old
computer (you can use Ninite for this job), and
then follow the instructions to connect
Chrome to aGoogle Account and allow the
browser to synchronise settings. If you were
using Chrome already,there’snothing else to
do; if you wereusing another browser, you
need to importbookmarks, settings, and any
usernames and passwords. To do this, click
the three dots at the top of Chrome and select
Settings. Ty peimportinto the search bar and
select Importbookmarksand settings.
Using the drop-down menu, you can select
the browser thatyou wereusing. Foreach
browser,you get adifferent selection of
importoptions. Forexample, Edge gives you
the option of Bookmarks, but select Firefoxor
IE and you can pull in saved passwords, too.
Once you’ve imported everything, the
information will be uploaded to the cloud.
Fromyour new computer, you can now install
Chrome, link it to the same Google account,
BROWSER AND
PA SS WORD SETTINGS
and all of your data will come down. It’s worth
mentioning thatyou should use asecure
passwordmanager,such as LastPass. With this
software, you can securely storeusernames
and passwords in acloud vault, which can
then be used across multiple devices (Mac,
Windows, Android and iOS) and multiple
browsers, giving you the ultimate flexibility.
