The Three Apparitions Call students’
attention to the entrance of the Third Apparition
in Scene i, line 86. Have students write an essay
analyzing the three apparitions: an armed head,
a bloody child, and a crowned child with a tree
in his hand. They should consider:


  • What does each image represent?

  • What power does each one hold?

    • What warnings/predictions does each
      apparition offer?

    • What meaning does each one hold for
      Macbeth?




Ask students to connect these three images to
the greater imagery of the play as a whole.
