Step Eight: Paste another path (it’s
still copied into the clipboard), and
adjust it for the top shape, as shown
here. This shape is scaled even smaller
than the second shape, the right edge
is more convex, and the left curve is
very similar to the inverted S of the
path just below it.


Step Nine: Use the Path Selection
tool to marquee around all three
paths to select them. Make the Light-
house Body Front layer active, and
go to Layer>Vector Mask>Current
Path to use the shapes as a mask on
the layer. The problem is that they’re
revealing the layer, not hiding it. So
with the paths still selected, c lick
the Path Operations icon (two over-
lapping squares) in the Options Bar,
and first choose Merge Shape Com-
ponents, followed by Subtract Front
Shape. Now the paths should be hid-
ing those sections of the lighthouse,
establishing our primary spiral shape.
You can temporarily hide the Light-
house Body Back layer so you can see
the sky through the lighthouse.
