“Oh!” said the mother. She and her daughter took down the buffalo. They
untied its feet.
Said the mother, “We cannot both ride the buffalo, for he is not strong
enough to carry us both. Ride alone on the buffalo, and I will follow you.” And that
was what they did.
While passing through another village, her daughter was asked, “Where are
you riding to, my child?”
“To Kompang ,” she said.Pointing to the farmerette, they asked, “And who is this old woman behind
you?”
“My mother,” said the girl.
