  1. It is used to express situations happened in the past and it is impossible to change them or
    situations that are impossible because they didn’t happen in the past; (imaginary situations.)

 If you hadn‟t gone to Italy, you wouldn‟t have met Mario.
(You went to Italy and you met Mario.)
 If I had run faster, I would have won the race.
(I didn’t run faster, so I didn’t win the race.)
 If we had bought a map, we wouldn‟t have got lost.
(We didn’t buy a map and we are lost)
