was dismissed as coach of FC Andorra,
the Spanish Segunda B side owned by
former team-mate Gerard Pique.


DANIEL STURRIDGE had his contract

and was banned for four months for
breaching betting rules.


Sparta Prague forward VACLAV
KADLEC announced his retirement as
a player at the age of 27. He scored four
goals in 15 games for his country and^

RON JANS resigned as coach of MLS
side Cincinnati after he was alleged to
have used a racial slur in front of players.

HARRY GREGG
(1932-2020)
The world’s most-expensive goalkeeper
when he joined Manchester United from
Doncaster Rovers for £23,000 in 1957,
he was hailed as a hero of the following
year’s Munich air disaster as he helped
rescue team-mates and passengers after
the plane crash which killed 23 people.
Two weeks after the disaster he played^
in the FA Cup and kept a clean sheet
against Sheffield Wednesday.
Capped 25 times by Northern Ireland,
he went on to manage Shrewsbury Town,
Swansea City, Crewe Alexandra and
Carlisle United before retiring and
running a hotel in his homeland.
He was awarded an OBE in the 2019
New Year’s Honours.

ANTONIO DUMAS
(1955-2019)
Brazilian coach who courted controversy
when he recruited players from his home
country to play for Togo and Equatorial
Guinea, persuading officials to give them
instant passports to make them eligible
to appear in World Cup qualifiers.

BARRY HULSHOFF
(1946-2020)
A member of the Ajax side that won
three successive European Cups, from
1971 to 1973, the defender spent 11
years with the Amsterdam club, winning
seven Eredivisie titles and 14 caps for his
country. Became the first Dutch player
to feature in an advertising campaign,
promoting dog food on TV.
