(Antfer) #1
CAMPER’S PANTRY, $15.95
The Aussie pretender to Back Country’s Freeze-Dried
throne, preparation is similarly easy.

TUNA MORNAY:
‘Home style tuna mornay with corn and pasta’.
Th: I like tuna but have to admit I’m not a Mornay fan. This
doesn’t smell too bad though. The pasta is a little chewy but
much better when you’ve stirred it through. Not too creamy,
not too fishy — a nice balance of f lavour.
G: I’m always scared with tuna but let’s try ... no, I don’t like
it. It’s slimy and a bit sweet. The tuna doesn’t feel like tuna.
D: It’s packing 2288kj in a single serving. That’s a lot of
energy!

CAULIFLOWER AND PEA DAHL:
‘Nourishing spicy dahl curry cooked with tomato and peas’.
P: This sounds quite nice, if they get the peas right. Peas are
always tricky.
D: I find they’re easier if you sit down.
P: Yep, the peas are not done.
D: It’s actually not bad. I like the spiciness but the cauli is
squidgy, like eating an octopus tentacle.
Th: The dahl is a nice consistency, just the caulif lower and
peas I’m not a fan of. I’d probably be happy with just the
dahl but some people might feel they want something a bit
chunkier.

SETTLERS DRIED BEEF MINCE, $10.90
Aussie brand of f lavoured dried mince, designed to be served with
carbs and their dried, diced vegetables.

COUNTRY CASSEROLE:
‘Mum’s homestyle speciality’.
D: It’s just mince really.
P: And TVP.
Th: It’s a weird combo of salty and sweet, but not a good balance.
Almost too salty but too sweet at the same time. It grows on me
after the third mouthful.
D: I’m going the opposite way. The mince falls apart, more like
mince paste.
Th: Yeah, but you can still taste f lecks of meat.
G: It’s edible but has a weird texture, grainy like couscous.
BURRITO:
‘The exciting taste of Mexico’.
D: This tastes almost the same as the last one, just slightly more
orange. That’s the colour of Mexico.
Th: The f lavour is better but the texture is the same — no body to
the mince.
D: It just disintegrates in your mouth.
Th: The aftertaste isn’t fantastic. You’d have to swig it down with
water.
D: There’s zero aftertaste, which is probably a good thing. It might
work in a wrap, with cheese and tomato and other things.
