SHIPS OF THE DESERT
Pyndan Camel Tracks offer the only
camel rides in Alice Springs.
A camel ride through the desert is
undoubtedly an unforgettable experience,
especially with friends and family in tow.
Camel rides depart three times a day,
seven days a week. A one-hour camel ride
against the backdrop of the beautiful
West MacDonnell Ranges is an iconic
Red Centre experience. Aboard one of
their well-behaved camels, there’s an
opportunity to observe unique Australian
animals in the wild, such as kangaroos,
birds and other native wildlife. Feel gently
lumbering serenity as you settle into a
peaceful ride aboard the 'ships of the
desert', the same mode of transport used
by outback pioneers.
Pyndan Camel Tracks has been
operating in the Alice since 2000. Owner
and cameleer, Marcus Williams, has
been working with camels since 1982.
His camels are well trained and happy.
An experience with Marcus offers an
opportunity to learn all about camels and
the important role they played during
early settlement in Central Australia.

ROTARY HENLEY ON TODD
R EGAT TA
The Rotary Henley on Todd Regatta is
renowned the world over as a distinctively
Australian, fun, quirky and eclectic ‘boat’-
racing festival, held annually on the dry
sandy bed of the Todd River in downtown
Alice Springs, Northern Territory. It’s the
only dry river boating regatta in the world.
Attendees compete in ‘boat’-races, best
described as Flintstones-style, holding a
metal frame ‘boat’ without a bottom and
running for the finish line. The day’s
finale is a ‘battle’ comprising three
motorised battleships with f lour bombs
and water cannons.
