TRAVEL FOR LIFE

Sailing on a traditional
handcrafted East African dhow at
Victoria Falls.

We’re all too busy. Who has a moment to step back and breathe? An endless stream of emails, texts,
Facebook messages, social gatherings, out-of-hours work, household chores, and disturbing news stories
eats into our spare time like termites.
Actually managing to step out of the rush, into a moment of peace and quiet with nature, is increasingly
challenging, but increasingly important. Many of us certainly feel the urge to do so and, turns out, it’s
reflecting in our travel trends.
Jenman Safaris are predicting an increase in slow, mindful travel, the sort where you enjoy a deeper, more
meaningful connection with the place and time you’re immersed in. The company’s CEO, Katja Quasdorf,
says travellers are erring from travels that include too many tourist traps and the all-too-familiar rush back
and forth between destinations.
“We are seeing a lot more travellers opting for slow travel, where they can immerse themselves in the
destination to both understand it better and fully enjoy their chosen activities without being rushed,” Katja
says. “The mindfulness comes from picking stays and experiences that are environmentally sustainable and
which support local communities and the ongoing conservation efforts.”
She points to the Greater Kruger Walking Track and the Zambezi Truth experience (which involves sailing
on a traditional handcraftedEastAfricandhowatVictoria Falls) as the hot travel picks for Jenman this year.
