I
know a young lady through
Twitter called Melissa Grace
(@melissassmile) who has
Angelman Syndrome, which is
a genetic disorder that mainly
affects the nervous system.
Melissa Grace absolutely loves
unicorns, so when I noticed
some designs in issue 266
(April 2018), I decided to
get to work. I sent them to
Melissa Grace, who had them
placed into a frame. I thought
you and your readers would
love to see the result. Doesn’t
Melissa look amazing with
her unicorns?
Toni Holmes, via email
Tina: Melissa sounds like a
special little girl, and this is a
fitting gift indeed, Toni. Who
wouldn’t love these unicorns
by Angela Poole, with their
rainbow colours and magical
feel? What a great idea to
mount them all together
in a single frame, too – the
finished picture is so bold and
bright and will add sparkle to
Melissa’s bedroom. Unicorn
fans will be pleased to know
we also featured a beautiful
unicorn portrait back in issue
278 (March 2019), designed
by Shannon Wasilieff. This
design featured metallic
threads and gold seed beads
for a glittering finish.

H
ere is something that I designed and created for my
wedding anniversary. My hubby said he wanted
something that could be changed yearly. I came up with so
many designs before this one, where the last two numbers
can be changed with the ones waiting at the bottom, and
I also changed the size of aida so many times (it is now
stitched on 11-count aida) just to make hubby happy.
I hope you all like it as much as I do.
Helen Jane Stonehouse, via email
Emily: This is such a fun and original idea, Helen! I love the
little features such as the ‘Y’ shaped like a champagne glass!
You’ve put so much thought into the design – it’s a special way
to commemorate your wedding anniversary and it’s even better
that you can keep updating it each year! I’m glad to hear that
your husband was pleased with the end result.

I
always look forward to
receiving every issue of
WOXS and have completed
many projects over the years.
When I saw the ‘Lighthouse’
in issue 284 (September 2019)
I couldn’t wait to have a go.
When I couldn’t find the
Stormy Nights fabric, I bought
the Sew-it-All* Haunted Moon
fabric instead and made a few
adjustments to suit. I also half
cross stitched the moon with
the glow-in-the-dark thread,
which really stands out in the
dark. I am very pleased with
the result. I hope you agree.
Anne McBride,
Birmingham
Sue: It looks
fantastic with
your choice of
fabric, Anne –
I love it just as
much as the
original. It’s
amazing what
a patterned
fabric can add.
T
hought I’d share with you what issue 283 (August
2019) made me do. I love owls, so I took the motif from
one of the cards and stitched it onto plastic canvas instead.
I then added interfacing and a brooch back.
Suzy Butler, Newport, South Wales
Hannah: Originally this little pink owl was featured as part
of a card range by Lesley Teare – it just goes to show that,
with a bit of imagination, you can create something truly
unique! Your little owl works so well as a brooch, Suzy. In
fact, I think I’ll be trying this idea out for myself!
