DESIGNED BY HEATHER NUGENT

Brighten a loved one’s day with a beautiful ocean creature

card, complete with playful motivational sayings

& smiles

O

ne of the things that makes
cross stitch special is it allows us
to create a unique handmade
gift to show someone we are thinking
of them. If we can raise a smile with
the design we make, that is even
better! These lovely cards not only
showcase the beauty of life in the
ocean, each has an accompanying
sentiment packed with puns to make
the recipient chuckle.
These creatures are added with
backstitch in one strand, and it’s the
backstitch throughout these designs
that really bring them to life. There
are just a few French knots to make
up the starfishes’ eyes (one strand),
and in the lettering (two strands).
These friendly characters are

designed to be made into cards for
all ages, but their square shape and
gentle colours mean they’d work well
on baby padded cube toys, or even
an afghan project, with or without
the text. Whatever you choose, you’ll
make someone feel fin-tastic!

Sea foam

I was fortunate enough to go snorkelling in
the Great Barrier Reef as a child. Swimming
with the sea creatures was amazing and I’ve
tried to capture the spirit of underwater
adventure in these cute ocean cards.
