Meet our guests

Why do you love cross stitch?
I use it as a stress reliever as well as
a creative outlet. It’s a very calming
activity. I also really enjoy the sense
of completion when I finish a project.
How’d you get into stitching?
When I was 18 years old, a friend
introduced me to it. I tried it and I
was hooked! I gave it up for several
years but came back to it about five
years ago – I am addicted again!
Fave WOXS design?
My favourite design so far is the
gingerbread ‘Advent Calendar’ by
Fiona Baker in issue
286 (Nov 2019). I
hope to start it soon
so it’s ready for next
Christmas. I adore
the little gingerbread
village and all the
bright threads.
Best stitchy compliment
that you’ve ever had?
I made a birth sampler for my sister’s
first baby and she cried when she saw
it. We were both in tears!

How‘d you start stitching?
I’ve been stitching for just over a year
now. My husband bought me a tiny
kit of a word we use to each other
and put it in my Christmas stocking
and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Current stitchy project?
‘The Universal Monster SAL’ by The
Witchy Stitcher. I absolutely love her
patterns, she has such a cool take on
dark and twisted themes, and they
are so easy to follow, too.
Proudest stitching moment?
I entered my completed Emma
Congdon piece into a competition
and won 1st place! That really made
me feel I was not only doing it right,
but doing it well.
Fave design from WOXS?
That would have to be the ‘Letter
to Santa’ or the Festive Puns Design
Library, both by
Durene Jones in
issue 287 (Dec
2019) – her
patterns always
look so good!

Recent fave WOXS design?
I would say ‘Hill Top Farm’ by Michael
Powell in issue 289 (Jan
2020). It’s so quirky and
beautiful which I love,
for me it makes me
feel warm and happy.
Your fave project?
I made ‘Allotment
Fun’ by Bothy Threads for my dad’s
65 th birthday and retirement. My dad
loved it as he is a keen gardener and
has it pride of place in his home.
Your worst stitching disaster?
I spent several hours most days
over two months making a large
baby sampler for a close friend. As I
finished, I spilt coffee all over it! I tried
to wash it out, but the big brown
stain remained and looked awful. I
had to make a smaller one for them
so they had it in time.
Favourite cross stitch designer?
Margaret Sherry is my favourite
designer as she was so creative. Her
animals look like they’re coming alive

  • they look so bright and vibrant.
