the audience makes of it. That said, I
would love to experiment with
different genres. I’m dying to do an
action thriller—playing a bad*ss action
role is my dream,” Athiya shares.
Which brings us to the subject of
critics. A topic that doesn’t faze her. “I
know everyone says they’re annoying,
but harsh reviews only motivate me to
do better. I don’t expect everyone to
love me—I’ve never been that person
who needs to be loved by everybody.

I’m very comfortable in my skin, and if
you don’t like me, that’s totally fine.
But I take it well only when it’s about
my work, and not me as a person. If
you don’t like my work, I’ll try and do
better. But if you don’t like me as a
person...too bad for you!” she remarks.
And she insists social media isn’t her
jam either. “I am on Instagram and
Twitter wholly and solely because of
the profession I’m in. I feel like
sometimes, it just consumes me—I
forget that it’s just Instagram and not
reality. You have to snap out of it. I
don’t understand why people use this
platform to make negative comments,
though. If you want to take a stand
about something, do that, but you
don’t need to be mean, right?”
If you hadn’t already noticed,
Athiya knows her mind. And she
isn’t afraid to put it in words, in a
way that’s pleasant, but also
brimming with spirit. “One might
crib about being a celebrity, and
having no privacy at all,” she
continues, “but I love the fact that
we can voice our opinions and bring
about a change. I use social media
to promote the things I believe in. I
