warning that you need to

MISSING A FLIGHT
OR AN EXAM
Both have consequences
for failing to meet a
deadline, and can be a
sign of not showing up
for yourself emotionally
and psychologically.
“This can mean fear of
incompetence, and fear of
not being good enough,”
says Zamo.
“It’s common for people
to find themselves in a
classroom, confronted
with a test they aren’t
prepared for. This is a
‘dream pun’—the mind
using a word or concept
and giving it a different
definition,” says Suzanne.
“The ‘lesson’ or ‘test’ is

frequently one we need
to learn from our past.”

FALLING
“This suggests that
you’re having trouble
finding your feet,” says
Sangoma. “You’re anxious
and moody, and you find
it difficult to stay in a
relationship. You need
to bring stability to your
life.” But, according to
Suzanne, not all falling
dreams necessarily mean
a fear of the unknown:
“Some dreamers report
a type of slow falling that
indicates serenity and
the act of letting go,”
she says. “Often, falling
uncontrollably from a
great height indicates
something in your waking
life that feels very much
out of control.”

FLYING
According to
DreamsCloud, an app
that’s archived more than
5,000 possible meanings
for dreams, flying can
represent control. For
Suzanne, flying high as a
pleasant, soaring, freeing
experience can symbolise
confidence. Flying near the
ground, on the other hand,
suggests frustration and loss
of control. 20th-century
psychoanalyst Sigmund
Freud viewed flying as a
symbol of sexual release.

BEING MURDERED
(OR MURDERING
SOMEONE ELSE)
So you dreamt you
murdered someone—or
that someone killed you.
No need to panic. Killing
isn’t necessarily a negative
thing when it comes to
the metaphors of dreams.
DreamsCloud suggests
it can mean cutting out
a toxic relationship, or
symbolically disconnecting
from an unwanted habit
or attitude.

HAVING SEX
Dreams about sex
may be a good way to find
introspection about your
desires, wants and needs.
It can also symbolise
the kind of intimate
relationship we have with
ourselves and others.
But sex with an ex?
DreamsCloud says this
doesn’t necessarily mean
you want him back—
but it can mean you’re
accepting the end of
the relationship. It can
also mean you’re letting
go, but taking what
you’ve learnt from the
experience with you.

“Nightmares
usually
occur when
you’re
overloading
on stress,
and can
actually be
very
healing.”
