FUTURISTIC FEATURE

The skyline of Dubai, UAE, is constantly changing.

One of the most recent additions is The Museum of

the Future – a giant, eye-shaped building encased

in stainless steel that has Arabic calligraphy etched

into it. The building is only due to open next year, but

has already won awards for its design. It will become

a hub for innovation and technology and is a project

being pushed by Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin

Rashid Al Maktoum. The museum’s director says that

he hates the idea of old-school museums where you

see things behind glass – he wants people visiting to

enjoy theatrical and interactive experiences. Themes

like climate change and how people may live on a

space station will feature. Sounds exciting!

People love to share pics on Instagram, and a company,

Hoppa, has analysed them to discover which worldwide

destinations are the most popular among Instagram

fans. The winner for 2019 was London, followed by Paris

and New York. But South Africa was represented too, by

our beautiful Mother City. Cape Town ranked #44 (the

only SA city to make the top 50).
