This is an ordinary black piece of plastic that doesn’t look
like other moisture separators or air filters. The Fisheye filter
doesn’t require a water reservoir like other moisture sepa-
rators, because it doesn’t collect humidity and pollutants,
but rather blocks them right from the get-go. This is made
possible by an exchangeable white filter element made of
special polymer, which absorbs dirt and moisture until it’s
completely saturated. The filter then automatically reduces
the constant flow of air until it is exchanged. As long as the
filter is only filled with moisture and not with other pollu-
tants, you can simply dry it out and use it again right after
that. The manufacturer recommends that the filter element
needs to be examined every 30 days and, when necessary,
exchanged.

The Fisheye Filter filters dirt and oil up to a particle size of
0.85 micrometers from the air. It can be used with an air
pressure measuring up to 125 psi and offers a volumetric
flow rate of 25 scfm. That means that you can use this de-
vice with far more than just airbrushes. Most prominent is
its use with large paint spray guns. The app. 100 g heavy
device is simply screwed on via a ¼ inch core thread under
the paint spray gun and then connected with an air hose
on the lower side. When using airbrush devices, the filter

should be placed directly on the compressor. The filter was
invented, manufactured, and is now distributed by Ameri-
can Kenneth Daniel Schwerin in the State of Pennsylvania.
As a partner company for Dry Air Systems, which distributes
drying systems for the plasma cutting industry, Kenneth int-
roduced the product to the painting industry roughly 7 years
ago under the name ”Fisheye Filter“. ”Fisheye“ is what you
call small paint irregularities, which can occur through dirt
particles or waterdrops while painting.

The Fisheye Filter is currently only available in the USA and
Canada. It is used there by many reputable airbrush artists
and course teachers (i.e. Airbrush Art Circus, Coast Airbrush,
etc.). The complete filter costs app. 45 USD and a replace-
ment filter can be had for app. 10 USD. The manufacturers
have placed a lifelong guarantee on the black filter encase-
ment. A retail outlet overview is provided right at the ma-
nufacturer website.
