body in Italy – Italian University
Sport Centre (CUSI); as the
organization officially became
a National Sports Federation,
and full member of the national
Olympic Committee in Italy. It
has been a memorable step
for the Italian university sports
movement, after years with
a view to improving training,
university sports activities,
national championships and
the Universiade, inclusion, the
fight against discrimination,
and attention to top athletes/
students, also protagonists of
the Olympic sports disciplines.


Eusa Members – Awards


On April 28th, an award
ceremony took place in the
Town Hall of Toulouse in France,
to award Mr Jean-Francois
Sautereau, former President
of the French University
Sports Federation, and former
Executive Committee member
of EUSA. Mr Sautereau received
the medal of Knight (Chevalier)
in the National Order of the
Legion of Honour. This is
the highest French national
distinction, which was this year
awarded to over 500 civilians,


and Mr Sautereau is one of
them.

Gala Events
The annual Polish University
Sports Gala was held in Lublin
on October 21, awarding the
achievements of student-
athletes, universities and
university sports clubs. It has
also been a celebration of 100
years of AZS Lublin – local
university sport association.

In 2022 over 70 Polish University
Sport Championships took
place and in Lublin, Rectors of
the most successful academic
institutions were awarded.
Many Rectors from Poland took
part in the event, recognizing
the importance of sport in the
institutions of higher education.
Similarly like in the past years,
the Gdansk University of
Technology was handed the
title, with the University of
Warsaw in second place and
AGH University of Science and
Technology taking third place.

Big part of the Gala has been
the summary and celebration of
Polish student-athletes on the

international level. Eleven of the
medalists of World University
Championship events received
awards and additional prizes.

Portugal University Sport
Federation – FADU held their
XIII University Sports Gala
on October 9, in Espinho,
celebrating their achievements,
and also awarding the best
student-athletes, coaches and
teams of the year. The occasion
served to honor all medalists
in the FISU World University
Championships.

Following the centennial
celebrations of university sport
in Lithuania, the Lithuanian
Student Sports Association
(LSSA) held their General
Assembly and special Gala. On
December 8, the honoring and
awarding evening of the best
Lithuanian student athletes
of 2022 took place during a
dedicated Gala. At the event,
the best Lithuanian student-
athletes were awarded, who
made their Alma Mater and
country famous in international
sports arenas with their
achievements. The event was

also used to properly thank and
honour the long-time president
of LSSA, Mr Garbaliauskas, and
introduce the new Board.
